AGEING ELEGANTLY

There was a time when I dreaded getting older, but thanks to these inspiring women, I’m actually quite looking forward to ageing elegantly.

I’m just about to hit the grand old age of 47, and all during my forties I have started to feel ‘older’, and to be completely honest, I have hated it. I have dyed over my grey hairs since my late twenties, I question whether I can wear certain clothes now (I would hate to be perceived as ‘mutton’), and I can no longer get away with tinted moisturiser (I need one of those foundations that does everything: fills, covers, masks, reflects and lasts).

Yet, having said all of this, I have felt a shift over the last couple of weeks. It all started with watching the film Iris, a wonderful film about the later life of fashion and style icon, Iris Apfel. Wow, what an incredible woman, and at 93, and inspiration to us all. Proof that it’s never too late to start something new.

Ageing elegantly is becoming cool, and I for one, am going to embrace it with open arms. One of my current favourite fashion brands, & Other Stories, clearly feel the same. Their Christmas campaign features a whole host of fashionably stylish and elegant women who are not in their 20s, 30s, or even their 40s. Real women.

However, my latest fashion crush, is Linda Rodin, New York-based stylist and creator of beauty brand, Rodin. She is everything I would like to be – beautiful, elegant, stylish and successful. If this is what 67 looks like, I can hardly wait!
